Franziska Opel

Franziska Opel (*1984, DE) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg with Matt Mullican and Wigger Bierma. In 2014, she graduated with distinction. In 2012, she received the annual Karl H. Ditze scholarship for diploma students.

Seduction, loops and playing with ambivalent charged symbols are recurring themes in her work. In clear and powerful visual language she refers to iconic signs and gestures, which she reconnects and questions. Her poetic texting, imaging and video editing often lead to elaborate installations. Her work has been exhibited i.a. in Köln, München, Berlin, Sofia, Graz, Milano and Prague.

She is the publisher and editor of "Hartikel", a critical online platform on art and culture, since 2015.
