Paul Kintu, 30, from Kampala, Uganda, was inspired to paint by a visit to the Ngoma Art Studio in Bukoto. During the first year, he worked as a brick layer in the day and painted at night. When he sold his first paintings in 2004 at the AKA Gallery, he realized that it is actually possible to be a full-time artist. His art is inspired by current events surrounding him. He uses mainly acrylic and oil on canvas to broach central problems and environmental issues. He is also influenced by the naive style of children's paintings, fascinated with capturing childhood memories and bringing them back to life on canvas.
