Sebastian Gäbel (*1973) works in the transitional zone between sculpture and sound production. His installations are characterized by multi-sensual and site-specific properties. The works that are displayed at Millerntor Gallery are part of the Schall und Rauch (“sound and smoke”) project, which was originally presented at the Gothenburg International Biennial for Contemporary Art 2015. Ten pianos served as raw material for a series of objects that addressed the evanescence of identity-establishing status symbols and the change in societal cultural interest. The audience is invited to participate and use the sculptures as sound source. Gäbel lives and works in Berlin and Gothenburg.
