Street Art School St. Pauli
The Street Art School St. Pauli was opened in the heart of the city in the Rindermarkthalle St. Pauli in September 2015. It is supported by the non-profit association 'streetart school st. pauli karo schanze e.V.', which was formed a year earlier by a small group of street art loving citizens of Hamburg, and funded by membership fees and donations.
The association supports young graffiti and street art artists as well as the development of the art genre in general. The different actors of the scene – including the critics – are supposed to come together at workshops, exhibitions and in 'the School' to enable and promote lively discussions on ideas, techniques and developments in the scene.
The official purpose, as stated in the statute determined by the founding members of the association, is the 'promotion of art and culture, education and upbringing, especially for youths'.
At the moment, the following options are offered:
- Workshops, trainings, guided tours, exhibitions on the topic of street art
- 'Open' studio work
- Non-material, material and financial support of artists and workshop participants from needy families
The events are offered in the school premises as well as in external schools and at open events such as the Millerntor Gallery.
